Meet the Stockist - Sea Room
If you’re into shopping locally and sustainably, then our latest meet the stockist feature will fuel your fire!
Today we’re catching up with Fiona of Sea Room in Bembridge, just a few miles from us here on the Isle of Wight.
Can you introduce yourselves and your store and tell everyone a little about how your store came to be?
I'm Fiona and I live in beautiful Bembridge with my family. I have lived on the island for 10 years now having left my career in sailing to start a family.
Sea~Room is a Zero Waste shop offering refills of household and hair and body products alongside carefully curated, locally made sustainable accessories.
The shop is the B&M presence for the other part of our business - Island Refillery which is a zero emission mobile, doorstep refill service which operates island wide.
We hope to raise awareness of the issues surrounding single use plastic and provide our customers with the best quality, eco friendly refill products so that they can easily reduce their household plastic waste and live more sustainably.
We love working with other local businesses that have similar agendas and hope by doing this we support our island economy and encourage our customers to care about traceability, provenance and ethics.
Can you give me some highlights of running your store?
I love opening the door of Sea~Room each morning because it is a fantastic way of meeting and engaging with the people in the village community where I live.
I love listening to people's stories, conversations about their families and lives and hearing how passionate they are about climate change - it's an education and a privilege!
How would you describe your brand in 3 words?
Natural, Sustainable, Impactful.
What do you look for when searching for products to stock in the store?
I gravitate towards local, sustainably made using natural products, circular, zero waste, great quality and beautiful!
What are your future plans for your store?
We have been open (the B&M shop) for just three months and have just submitted our application to become a CIC. I have also joined the Sustainability Working Group on our local Parish Council.
Our focus at the moment is to grow the concept of refilling in our local community and encourage as many people as possible to start their zero waste journey.
Through the shop and Island Refillery we support organisations like Surfers Against Sewage and enable customers to donate refills to our local food bank, we also support a local charity The Wave Project and organise or participate in a monthly beach 'Plastic Pick Up".
I hope that we can develop and increase this support as we become more established.
