Take a yoga class with Rosie
Rosie teaches yoga here on the Isle of Wight at Chapel Studio
Hi! Rosie here, founder of Roake Studio and, excitingly, a newly qualified yoga teacher. Eight months ago, I said yes to yoga teacher training thinking I’d learn how to teach others how to breathe and move. What I didn’t expect was that it would completely rewire the way I see myself - my body, my mind, my past, even my grief. Turns out, becoming a yoga teacher isn’t just about postures or Sanskrit. It’s about learning how to sit with yourself and then realising why Svasana is the most difficult asana of all.

I’ve been practising yoga for over a decade, but something shifted just recently. In a class not long ago, I realised I wasn’t just there for quiet solitude anymore. I was laughing. Talking. Actually enjoying being around people. The slow decline I’d found myself on began to reverse - or, as my teacher puts it, I was on “the slow striptease back to yourself.”
Sure, yoga is great for your body, but for me, it’s been the emotional resilience, the focus, and the nervous system reset that have really changed my life.

No, I can’t do every pose, and I’m definitely not the flowy, leg-behind-the-head girlies you see on Instagram. But I am a relatable teacher - open, kind, maybe funny on a good day. My hope is to offer others what yoga has given me: growth, reassurance, and a whole lot of love and acceptance, both in class and beyond.

Outside the yoga mat, you know me as the face behind Roake Studio. I was going to say “in my day job,” but honestly, what is a day job anymore? In that world, I help people make sustainable choices about how they dress and express themselves. So it’s funny (or maybe perfectly fitting) that I’ve ended up doing the same thing through yoga. Offering sustainable options for well-being: sustainable fitness, sustainable rest, sustainable peace. (Because burning out and then meditating for ten minutes doesn’t count as balance, sadly.)

So today I wanted to bring you a free yoga class to allow you to take time out during this busy period to be on your own and find that balance. Maybe you want to take a few deep breaths between basting the turkey, or simply turn off for half an hour over Twixmas. Don’t be swayed by the social noise of “new year, new you” to hastily join a gym and then cancel your membership by February 1st. Instead, just move your body gently at home, have a big stretch and be kind to yourself. I’ve made this playlist that you may want to link to while you’re doing this practice.
We’ve also collaborated with our favourite sustainable activewear brand, BAM, which the yogis here are wearing styled with pieces from Roake Studio. Be sure to follow us @roakestudio on Instagram too, because we have an amazing giveaway coming up that you won’t want to miss! One lucky winner will receive a £100 gift voucher for BAM and £100 gift voucher for Roake Studio. Keep your eyes peeled for that one! And I hope you enjoy the class.
Namaste.
