This Is Not A Wedding Dress

Most wedding dresses, even those with the best intentions, are never worn after the big day. In the UK alone, we spend more than £2.7 billion on 50 million single-use outfits every year. And while the demand for second hand wedding dresses rises every year - which is great! -  what if instead of selling your nuptials outfit to someone else, you could carry on wearing and enjoying it yourself?

That’s why we’ve introduced the Roake Studio Casual Brides (and bridesmaids) range. Put simply, this is exactly what we do now - the same easy, versatile, comfy designs you love - but in white. Our dresses, jumpsuits and separates are now available in a bride-friendly shade of cool linen, giving you a cost-effective wedding “dress” option that also has longevity.

The same easy, versatile, comfy designs you love - but in white.

The Casual Brides range is inspired by a real Roake Studio customer who got in touch with exactly that request; she wanted a Millie vest and a Saffron skirt in white linen (great choice) so that she could wear both pieces in different ways after her wedding, making it very much not a single-use outfit. That got us thinking - how many more people would love a more laid-back look that they can adapt and re-wear for years to come, rather than packing a satin dress away in the attic never to be worn again. Probably loads.

To order something for a casual wedding, simply pick your garment or garments of choice and select white linen from the fabric menu. You can order any garment except our quilted styles. There are three sleeve options for our Winnie wrap jumpsuit, Winnie wrap dress and Winnie wrap top, and you can always add or take away length from the length of any of our trousers, skirts and dresses to make them perfect for you and your big day.

As well as Casual Brides, we can cater for Casual Bridesmaids.

There are approximately 275,000 weddings each year in the UK and the average wedding dress requires 10k litres of water to make. Most dresses are worn just once.

Consider the amount of fabric — and water — required for a silk dress, one of the most popular fabrics for wedding gowns. Approximately 2,542 gallons of water are used to produce just one yard of silk fabric. That means that the average ballroom gown, which requires eight to 10 yards of fabric, uses up to 26,420 gallons of water. A mermaid gown uses four to six yards or up to 15,850 gallons of water, and a tea-length dress, at around 3 yards of fabric, consumes almost 8,000 gallons before you try it on.

This starts with the dress: all brides are passionate about their dresses, and yet the majority will end up never worn more than once: Censuswide reports Britons will spend more than 2.7 billion pounds on 50 million single-use outfits in a given year.
