Meet the Stockist - Atwin
In this series of blog posts, we will be chatting to some of our stockists about what makes shopping independent so special.
Can you introduce yourselves and your store and tell everyone a little about how your store came to be?
Atwin is a consciously curated womenswear, accessories and homewares store nestled in the historic Norwich lanes. Born out of a desire to rejuvenate the high street, we stock some of the finest makers Norfolk has to offer along with some favourite UK brands who's ethos are aligned with our sustainable and ethical approach. Atwin hopes to bring a more community focused, mindful and personal approach to the shopping experience. We felt that our city was lacking a store that spoke to us in this way so decided to create it ourselves.
Founded by lifelong friends Sarah Brown and Bonnie Doonan, this is a store born out of connection & respect. Both women run their own sustainable fashion and jewellery design businesses within the city and stock a selection of their wares in store.
Can you give me some highlights of running your store?
Atwin, old Norfolk dialect for ‘between’ encompasses this desire for community and connection that can be shared between friends, brands and the community alike. We very much enjoy introducing people to new brands be it Norfolk based or further afield. Talking to customers about brands, products and sustainability - people seem to be really interested in these things and we absolutely welcome these discussions.
How would you describe your brand in 3 words?
Independent, curated & community.
What do you look for when searching for products to stock in the store?
We strive to stock small businesses from Norwich and around the UK. Many of the products displayed in the store and online are handmade by brands that also have sustainability at their core. We are proud to offer a range of price points and believe that we have a broad offering of products to suit many different people. It is important to us that we listen to our customers and community in regards to product purchasing and that we grow and evolve with them. We have a wonderful community of return customers and believe this is, in part, thanks to our approach.
What are your future plans for your store?
After a successful flea market in 2021, we have plans to have a seasonal flea market, bringing in local makers and the community to sell seconds, second hand and vintage clothing. We ran a sold out wreath making workshop and have plans to increase our events offerings. We enjoy using the shop space for a variety of uses as it has such a great location and makes us feel like we are really working within our community. We are building our online presence and solidifying our purpose, ethos and offerings.
