Shopping Mindfully on Black Friday
Black Friday sales seem to be here to stay, so how do we make it work for us whilst shopping consciously at the same time?
Every year the chaos of black Friday causes frantic and often needless spending on items we wouldn’t have bought otherwise. The weekend is a representation of mass consumerism, which is leading to more pollutant emissions and increased land use that is subsequently destroying our environment.
The effects of Black Friday are damaging to small businesses who cannot compete with the extreme discounts offered by large corporations.
But how can we all make a difference this Black Friday?
- Avoid huge corporations. Instead, support small and local businesses where you know staff are being paid a fair wage and are treated with respect.
- Make a list of your intended seasonal purchases and stick to it - do I really need this?
- Better still, buy those intended full price items from small businesses.
As a small business, what are we doing to change the trend of Black Friday?
This Black Friday we will be hosting a Zero Waste Sale - an opportunity to help us reduce waste, and find something special in the process.
Our zero waste collection includes one-of-a-kind handmade garments, made from fabric that would have otherwise gone to waste and repaired faulty batched goods.
Break away from Black Friday trends and help us move towards a more sustainable alternative, together. Find out about our next Zero Waste Sale by joining our mailing list.
