Roake has blossomed throughout the past few months,

into a place where women can find clothing and accessories that fit into their lives, whatever stage they’re at.

I switched up my business in 2018. After my son arrived, I found it difficult to find clothing that worked for me. My body had changed and despite feeling incredibly proud of what it had achieved, I was disappointed. In some ways I think I was smaller than I was pre-natal, but my old clothes still didn’t feel right. Everything was uncomfortable, I couldn’t feed my baby in it, or it didn’t fit in the same way it used to. It got me thinking about the inaccessible nature of womenswear, and how each body is beautifully different, yet one garment from one brand can feel completely alien to hundreds of different body shapes.

When I related this to my business, I realised that I had been working on building my brand in so many directions that I’d lost sight of the main goal: to make products for women that were as versatile and comfortable as each diverse customer needed them to be.

So, I started making garments for myself. I found them useful, therapeutic, and I grew with them and shrunk with them and everything in between. With the help of a kickstarter I then produced my first collection. I sampled the one-size option and it went well, so I’ve spent 2 years working on the perfect blend of loose-fitting-yet-flattering shapes and it’s been a constant learning curve.

The real test was welcoming a beautiful and diverse rang of women to our recent shoot. Watching the same size and shape garment work as well on a 5ft2, pregnant woman, as it did on a 5ft8 UK8, I felt like I’d nailed the brief.

We’ve utilised fabric that would have gone to landfill, we’ve introduced more flexible sizing, we’ve created great quality, timeless styles and we’ve done it all from our little studio.
