Hair Pin How-To Guide

The humble hair pin, a minimal, shimmering, plastic free hair-up alternative. You guys love them, and we’re constantly asked for demos, so we thought it was about time we showed you the full extent of our hair pin abilities! We pooled our regular styles in the studio and put together a full guide to hair pin do’s!

Check out our 5 ways to wear the Lizzy brass hair pin below...

First up, The scruffy bun n’ weave

This style works with all types of mid-longer length hair.

  1. Start with a twist of your hair into a coil.

  2. Keep twisting until it coils around itself into a bun.

  3. Using the end piece of hair hold your bun together and tuck it all in.

  4. Secure the bun with your hair pin by weaving it in and out of the bun through layers of hair, touching your head as you go, and then pop it out the other end of the bun.

Half Up Do

This style works with short hair and longer hair. It’s up to you how much hair your put into your half-up do.

  1. Take the top section of hair, as much or as little as you like.

  2. Keep twisting until it coils around itself into a bun.

  3. Secure the bun with your hair pin by weaving it in and out of the bun through layers of hair, touching your head as you go, and then pop it out the other end of the bun. (Weave it in and out a good few times to keep the pin secure).

The Rolled Bun

Best for longer length hair but you could wrap a few less times and make it work for shorter lengths.

  1. Put your hair into a low pony tail (This one requires a hair tie, so not strictly plastic free, but too beautiful to leave out!)

  2. Make a small gap behind the pony and loop it into itself.

  3. Do this a few times over until you are left with two smaller strands of hair on either side.

  4. Tie them or tuck them in under the bun.

  5. Take the hairpin and thread through the bun catching lots of hair throughout the layers for extra security.

The Braided Bun

This one is best for short-mid length hair, as long as you can make a braid!

  1. Start a standard braid from the middle of your head.

  2. Pull the braid out a little to create volume.

  3. Coil your braid around into a bun.

  4. Hold the end of the braid in place and using your hairpin, weave through lots of layers so that it touches your head as it goes.

  5. Pop the pin out through the other side of the bun to secure it.

The Top Tuck Braid

Perfect for shorter to mid-length hair, or double up with longer styles.

  1. Do french plait all the wait down the middle of your head and finish with the whole of your hair.

  2. Bring the bottom of the plait all the way up to the top of your head.

  3. Tuck the end into the plait at the top of your head neatly.

  4. Grab your pin and weave it from the top of the tucked plait down through layers of hair to secure it.

  5. Option here to undo the plait until the base of your head, and create a twisted bun and weave with the plait - beautiful!
