Festival Styling

Festival season is upon us and oh aren’t we ready for the sun, songs, and dancing. Here on our little island we have recently held the Isle of Wight Festival where our shores welcomed thousands of festival goers all geared up in their glitter and extravagant outfits.

Whilst witnessing the sea of colour, sparkles and sequins was an eye-catching sight, it got us thinking of the impact all these single use, fad items of clothing have on our natural world. Fast fashion brands use occasions such as festivals to flog poor quality, cheap, throwaway garments designed for one weekend of the year.

Shopping Smart

In this journal post, we want to share our advice for shopping consciously for your fun festival outfits. There are so many different sustainable methods of curating your fits that are easy, won’t break the bank,  and can be worn all year round.

Shopping Your Wardrobe

First of all, let's go back to basics. We all have our favourite pair of denim shorts/ jeans. Use your staples as a foundation for building a comfortable but spectacular outfit, from there you can add the star of the show using some of the other methods we’re going to suggest further on in this journal.

We also suggest having a rummage through your wardrobe; you’ll be surprised what gems you’ll find hidden in between the piles of jeans and tees!

Second hand

Shopping second hand closes the loop of consumption; re-homing previously loved garments and extending its lifecycle. Charity shops are dotted everywhere and every one of them likely stuffed full of potential jazzy festival gear. An online second hand store we love is Manifesto Women. They stock all sorts of goodies so there's bound to be some impressive accessories to spice up your outfits.

Small Brands

Shopping small and supporting smaller businesses is another way of sourcing styles sustainably. Lots of smaller businesses have similar values to ours, using ethical production methods and sourcing fabrics from registered oeko-tex suppliers.

We’ve created an edit of some festival outfits inspo combining pieces from some of our favourite ethical brands and teamed them up with some styles from us that we think you’ll love for that festival feeling.
