Our guide to maintaining your brass jewellery.

At Roake, we choose brass as a material for our jewellery, as the recycling process is less energy-intensive in comparison to other metals, and yields a smaller carbon footprint. Brass naturally tarnishes and becomes dull when it becomes in contact with oxygen or water. Brass will last for decades with proper care and polishing occasionally to keep it sparkly and gold.

Cleaning brass is actually simpler than you think and often the tools needed for these remedies can be found right in your own home! Here is our favourite methods to brighten up your brass jewellery:

One of our favourite ways to brighten up our brass jewellery is to mix a little lemon juice and baking soda into a paste and apply in small pea sized amounts to your brass piece. Then wipe off with the cloth and give it a good rub down until it’s sparkling.

If you don’t have any baking soda, We suggest pouring one cup of water into a container. Then squeeze half a lemon and pour the lemon juice into the water. Add and stir in a teaspoon of salt until dissolved. Place your jewelry in the mixture and keep an eye on it until it is shiny and bright. Then wash off the item and dry completely.
